Bob Benson's hand carved santa rolling pin
WHAT ABOUT BOB

Just north of Longview Texas, Bob and Mollie Benson are putting their craftsmanship to good use. His carving and flowers “Texas Daisies” have been covering many states, ever since Bob put down his Railroad Lantern after being a
Conductor of 40 years for The Cotton Belt Railroad.

When the Benson’s started their business, Buckles and Boards, in 1987, they had no idea who their hobby would bring them in contact with. The first Boot Rocker that was made for a celebrity went to Coach Tom Landry. Being a big Cowboys fan, Bob has made a Bootrocker for every Cowboys coach plus Randy White, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Jay Novacek, Tony Romo and Dexter Coakley. He was eventually given the nickname “Chairman of Da Boys”.

Bob’s Carvings have gone from coast to coast in 7 different museums in America from Boxcar Willie’s Railroad Museum in Branson, Missouri to National Woodcarvers Museum in Custer, South Dakota.

Bob’s love for woodcarving is evident in all of his work. It may be in a step stool, a birdhouse, a santa, or in a wooden flower that he makes for children in hospitals. Bob’s love for kids is obvious in his work with Neal Mccoy’s East Texas Angel Network, American Cancer Society, and Scottish Rite Hospitals. Rockers are
donated and auctioned off to raise money for these children. The celebrities that come to these events are presented with personalized Rockers so that they will have a little bit of Texas to bring home with them. Some of these many stars have been Toby Keith, Reba, and Oprah.

Bob’s talent has been recognized by winning The Wood Magazine “Build a Toy” contest 5 times. He and his son Casey, are the only father-son team to win the Best Carved Toy contest. Bob has been featured on “ Proud of East Texas” with Joan Hallmark, and Fox 4 News “Hometown Hero” with Claire Tinsley.

With his wife, Mollie, by his side, they have built an honest and successful business together.  They have been happily married for 46 years and look forward to spending many more glorious years of happiness and joy.
